Singing masterclass with Katalin Károlyi

A unique opportunity for a meeting between students from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and one of the most essential voices in contemporary creation.

Of Hungarian origin, Katalin Károlyi enhanced her violin experience with singing under Noëlle Baker and at the Studio Versailles Opéra. Thus, from a young age, she sang under the direction of Yehudi Menuhin, William Christie, Philippe Herreweghe, George Benjamin, Reinbert de Leeuw, David Roberson and performed on the stages of the Paris National Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Colón, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Wigmore, Barbican and Royal Albert Halls, Cité de la Musique; as well as at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago, Aix-en-Provence, Salzburg and Île-de-France festivals. In 2000, György Ligeti composed the cycle Sippal, Dobbal, Nádihegyedüvel for her voice and for the Amadinda Percussion Group, which she recorded at Teldec shortly after its creation and of which she is the ambassador around the world. His varied repertoire is illustrated in pieces such as Ligeti's Aventures and Nouvelles Aventures , Strawinsky's Les Noces , Berio's Folk Songs, Calmo, Cyrcles and Sequenza III , the world premieres of John Woolrich's The Sea and Its Shore and Jan van de Putte's Addiamento , and in his incarnations of Judit in Bartók 's Bluebeard's Castle , Isoliero in Rossini's Le Comte d'Ory , the title role in Bizet's Carmen , Maria-Maddalena in Sciarrino's Infinito Nero , Melanto and Fortuna in Monteverdi's Il Ritorno d'Ulysse , Les Plaisirs de Versailles and Médée by MA. Charpentier, and Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie . Passionate about composition and chamber music, Katalin Károlyi regularly collaborates with Gyorgy Kurtág, Peter Eötvös, Steve Reich and with ensembles such as the Ensemble Intercontemporain, Asko-Schönberg Ensemble, BCMG, London Sinfonietta…
