NOX BOREALIS
Ensemble Hopper & Jean-Baptiste Barrière Bozar - Terraces & Hall M & Smoking Room , BrusselsUnder the soft glow of the Northern Lights, instruments, electronics, and video blend in the work of Kaija Saariaho and Maija Hynninen – Finnish contemporary music greatests.
How can we enter the physical world of sound? That is what composer Maija Hynninen asks herself in Lumen Boréal. During the performance, musicians spread out across different halls and the architecture becomes an ally of sound. You move through the work as if you were inside the sound itself. You can isolate yourself with a soloist and immerse yourself in a fragment, or you can hear the ensemble, supplemented by live recordings, playing the complete work in another hall. Spatial, sonic, and visual exploration takes center stage during this unique happening. The outstanding Ensemble Hopper, led by François Deppe, also performs Kaija Saariaho's colorful Lichtbogen, where the audience is completely immersed in the accompanying video installation Nox Borealis by Jean Baptiste Barrière.
A concert introduction with Jean-Baptiste Barrière will take place at 19:00.
